“Five-time Grammy-nominee Macy Gray has returned. This time with with Covered, her sixth studio album release and a surprisingly risky new record of Gray tackling tunes from the likes of Arcade Fire and Metallica to Kanye West, Colbie Caillat and so many more. Reached at her home in Los Angeles, Gray, 44, (with her voice sounding as raspy as it first did on her breakout single “I Try,”) gave WeTheUrban all the tea on the new record, dreams, and her upcoming role in the new Lee Daniel’s directed movie Paper Boy.”

WeTheUrban: How do you feel about the feed back of Covered so far?

Macy Gray: The feedback has been great! Mostly all from critics and fans and whatnot, I’d say it’s been pretty good. There’s been a couple people that don’t like it, but that’s ok too!

WTU: What was different about the process of creating this album as opposed to past records?

MG: Well it was generally just a really big challenge that I wanted to do. I saw this Nina Simone video where she re-did “My Way” and it gave me the idea to do an album completely composed of covers. To completely re-do them (but in my style),  kind of like she did and then…
