Absolutely NOTHING beats couture! Jean Paul Gaultier proves this in his salute to the iconic late Amy Winehouse in his latest collection. Models graced the catwalk in Amy’s signature almost cartoon-like style with cigarettes, big hair, thick eyeliner, and beauty spots galore. Referencing her unique mix of floaty silhouettes, tight bustiers and sportswear, the effect was one of tomboyish femininity. GIVENCHY SPRING 2012 COUTURE

So much YES! Despite Givenchy’s change from last season’s ethereal gowns of ivory, Ricardo Tisci managed to create an enchanting collection that was a cross between punk and turn of the century glamour girl.

Models including Natasha Poly, Kristen McMenamy and Saskia de Brauw wore oversized bullrings and earrings which also made quite a popular appearance in Givenchy’s menswear show earlier this month. Perfect touch to this edgy collection filled with crocodile skin, leathers, and hand beaded crystals, no?

CHRISTIAN DIOR SPRING 2012 HAUTE COUTURE 

Couture has kicked off this season and has us drooling! If you’re a fan of black/white contrast, you’ll love Dior’s latest creation by designer Bill Gaytten. POLA THOMPSON SPRING/SUMMER 2012

The Chilean born, New York based designer Pola Thomson launches her new collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Collection #5 is inspired by the phenomenon known as »Blossom Dessert« which takes place in the north region of Chile. With petite crop tops, drapey kimono sleeved dresses, loose tees and flirtatious high-waisted shorts, Pola’s creations give off a relaxed, yet smart and sophisticated vibe perfect for any spring occasion. See the full collection here.
