The way this band can eschew traditional melodies to suit their aesthetic amazes us every time. Today, in the Radio 1 Live Lounge, The xx took to covering a Christmas classic, Wham’s ”Last Christmas”.
They took the festive albeit, cheesy George Michael hit and turned it into a gentle and minimalistic record, with intense, whispering vocals and echoing guitars with a classic beat making it sound nothing less than an xx hit. Check it out (above)!

Indie Pop sensation, The xx, have dropped the next tune from their upcoming album Coexist (out 9/10/12 in the UK), a serenely minimalistic cut entitled “Angels.” It’s vintage Romy & co., as the trio presents the nuts and bolts of their preferred aesthetic, which turns up Romy’s haunting vocals and mellows the bass and Jamie’s production.
