Meet Vibrant: The Planned Parenthood Company Changing The Sex Toy Industry for the Better

It's no secret that GOP congressional leadership is dead set on shutting down Planned Parenthood completely. One of their main tactics has been to push legislation misleadingly named “defunding” Planned Parenthood. It's a cruel ploy that would punish women and hit people with low incomes, people living in rural communities, and people of color the hardest.

Planned Parenthood's health centers provide supportive reproductive health care to over 2.4 million people in a year. An estimated one in five women has relied on Planned Parenthood health centers for care in her lifetime.

And it's not just about abortions. If politicians in Congress succeed in “defunding” Planned Parenthood and in shutting down Planned Parenthood health centers, they would most definitely cause a national health disaster. Those millions of Planned Parenthood patients would lose access to the preventive care they’ve relied on — care like cancer screenings, birth control, and STD testing and treatment, including HIV tests.

As activists continue to use their voice and push for change on this issue, a unique brand supporting the movement has come across our radar.

Meet Vibrant: born in 2016 and hailing from the Rocky Mountains, this online shop and educational hub truly 'walks it like they talk it'. Selling an impressive range of hand-selected body-safe, inclusive sex toys, 100% of sales proceeds go directly to Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. It's not every day you see this type of commitment from a sex toy company.

Vibrant founder and CEO, Angela Wells,  spent 15 years as a Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains team member and has impassioned countless people to support their initiative while also celebrating their bodies and sexuality; without shame or judgment.

In a conversation with We The Urban, Vibrant founder Angela Wells expands on the need for a body-safe, body positive and sex positive community to explore pleasure:

“Pleasure is a basic human right and function of humanity, and can also be a source of great vulnerability,” explains Wells. “Wouldn’t it be great if people could approach sex the same way they order at a restaurant? We’d all be unafraid to ask for what we want, enjoy it, and give feedback to make it better. The main obstacle standing in our way is the normalization of pleasure - and that is a founding mission for us. We aim to offer a trusted resource for pleasure products and education to all people regardless of age (although, 18+), income, religion, race, gender or sexual identity. We do this by offering body-safe products through an online experience that doesn’t make assumptions, gender toys, or include pornographic images.”

In a world that is more interconnected and socially conscious than ever before, it's refreshing to see brands of all calibers have the bravery to take a bold stance on political issues and simply do what's right. As Vibrant continues to grow, we can only hope that more people will get inspired to start similar social enterprise initiatives.
