Eco-Friendly Spotlight: Haida Co.
Bomber Jacket: Haida Co.'s Stephano Mars
In terms of pollution, the apparel industry is right up there with oil and coal. Every stage of the supply chain,—from growing the cotton (with toxic pesticides) to assembling the garments (in smoke-belching factories) to shipping the clothes (in gas-powered vehicles)—takes a toll on the planet, only for Americans to throw away an astounding 24 billion pounds of clothing and footwear every year. So what's the good news? Well, luckily, more and more brands are using organic or recycled materials and we're excited to introduce one of our favorite emerging brands: Haida Co.
Co-founded by best friends Lou and Candice, Haida Co. was inspired by traveling and first-hand experiencing the energy of different cultures around the world, most impactfully, the essence and livelihoods of different peoples.
"We strongly believe that all humans have within them a potential energy to create something beautiful and meaningful. The deeper we go into traditional cultures, the more we see beauty and simplicity in the meaning of life." - Haida Co.
Fashion has power, the power to change lives. The lives of farmers, spinners, weavers, printers, tailors, designers and many more who have invisibly woven their souls into what we wear. Haida Co. honors them all, consciously, at every stage of crafting their dope range of products.
All of their weavings are made and naturally dyed by artisans in Indonesia. Each Haida piece is an authentic one of a kind artwork 100% handmade by Sumbanese and Balinese artisans.
It's by creating this environment of dignity, honor, and dedication, Haida Co. is able to provide the opportunity for women and men in Indonesia to end the cycle of poverty and create a more equitable society.
"We believe in paying fair prices and wages to those we work with. Paying fair wages is as important to us as every other part of our business. It is one of our company’s core values to elevate the standard of living of all those part of the Haida Tribe."
Did you know studies prove you absorb chemicals and pesticides laced within the fibers of your clothes… right into your skin? Sustainable brands offer an exponentially better alternative. Haida Co. creates a wide range of handmade purses, bomber jackets, and backpacks that are natural fibres, high-quality leather, and natural plant dye.
